He was 98.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRahi breathed his last in the early hours today at his residence in Nowshera area of the city,\u201d an official said.<\/p>\n<p>Born on 6 May 1925, Rahi wrote several collections of poems and translated works of some of the celebrated poets in other languages to Kashmiri.<\/p>\n<p>While Rahi received the Sahitya Akademi Award for his collection of poems \u2018Nawroz-i-Saba\u2019 in 1961, he received the highest literary award of the country \u2014 Jnanipith award \u2014 in 2007 for his collection \u2018Siyah Rood Jaeren Manz\u2019 (In Black Drizzle). He was also conferred the Padma Shri award in 2000 for his works.<\/p>\n<p>Rahi translated works of Baba Farid into Kashmiri while Dina Nath Naadim\u2019s influence was apparent in his early works.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Renowned poet and Kashmir\u2019s first Jnanpith awardee Professor Rehman Rahi died here on Monday.
